Newb classing questions from a guy who should know better.

This is my third season autoxing. First season competing in any events with the DC region. I used go to the Philly and AI hosted events at Ripken. So here is my story.

I have a 2005 Scion tC. Up until this past November I had a carbon fiber hood. But on a crisp November morning I discovered that some nice gentlemen decided to relieve me of that burden. I still had the stock hood so I put it back on. Now the CF hood made things easy as far as what class I fell in. I was exceptionally out gunned in SM. No worries, I am mainly out for a good time, but now as I get a little more experience I would like to shape up to something that resembles competitive. I am also an idiot and did not read the rules, nor was I even involved in autocrossing until after I had modified my car. So here is the list of modifications:

17x8 Wheels with 245/40/17 Kuhmo Ecasta V700s (Stock wheels are 18x7.5 with 225/40/18 tires)

Tein SS-P adjustable coilovers (Adjustable dampers, adjustable ride height, and adjustable front pillowball mounts)

Front strut tie bar (connects the two strut towers, does not tie into the firewall)

Front and rear adjustable anti-sway bars.

Stop-Tech Stage II brakes. OEM size slotted rotors, Maxxis Pads, braided stainless lines, high temp fluid.

Modified cat back exhaust.

Very custom quick shifter.

Future plans include: a lightweight flywheel, heavier duty clutch, eurathane motor mounts, limited slip differential and a battery relocated to the trunk.

So I thought my car would be fine in STX since the theft of my CF hood, even with my future plans. I would probably do better in STS, but my wheels and tires are too wide. But I completely skipped over that whole STREET TIRE requirement for the Street Touring classes and bought some R-compounds at the beginning of this season because, correct me if I am wrong, you can run them in SM. And I saw all my SM buddies running their R-Compounds and I have more credit than sense sometimes and I wanted to be cool like them. Now it would be a shame to peel the new rubber off the wheels and mount street tires them. And my tC is my ONLY car so I can't go too crazy and gut the interior. I am saving for my first home so completing the list of mods will take a few years.

Again please correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that my modifications are out of order a bit seeing as I am pushed either back into SM or into FSP. Are these my only options? And if so, which should I choose?

Thanks for your help.

I didn't see anything that would take you out of SP, unless I missed it. You will be much more competitive there then in SM unless you plan on doing a lot of engine work, and even then, it is not the right car for the class. FSP will put you in a class with smaller lighter cars, but I think you would be better off there IMHO. Others will chime in I'm sure. Maybe after you have burned through the R compounds you can look at making the car legal andcompetitive for the ST classes.
