SCCA Insurance Coverage at Solo Events

I have been asked many times about the coverage the SCCA provides at our solo events and why is it any better than non SCCA events.

First, let me make it perfectly clear, our insurance does not cover your car in any way. We are talking about liability insurance. This is what protects you if you run over someones foot in the grid for instance, and they are crippled for life. The jury, non racing types, decides to award the person 5 million dollars for YOUR carelessness. You are covered!

The main difference between clubs is the liability coverage you are provided, should you hit a course worker, spectator or damage the lot owners property. Most Mark clubs, like Porsche and BMW do carry liability insurance, but I am not aware of the coverage provided to the participant. Some clubs only carry liability for the provider of the lot and not for the competitors, the only thing I can say about them is "let the buyer beware". The SCCA makes the insurance binder coverage available at every event, I'm sure many of you have seen it
posted either on the bus or at the worker tent. In today's litigious society, I would not want to run in an event that did not provide at least $5,000,000 in personal liability protection. Below is the coverage available to all participants at SCCA Solo events. This is taken from the main binder policy which is available in full on the main SCCA site http://scca.org
