Hey guys,
this will be my first time running on a track with my car.
i've been reading through the rules and requirements and whatnot but i am unsure as far as the pre-tech thing goes... i have signed up and paid for the april 4th PDX.
Do i need a pre tech form and where can i find it? Also, am i able to fill out the pre tech form? I'm not ASE certified by any means but i have a lot of experience and i am a mechanic helper at a shop.
Lastly, whats the best way to get involved in competition racing? i figured starting off doing the level 1 PDX would be good and work my way up. What do you guys think?

The Tech Form is available in the Time Trials/PDX section but it isn't very well marked - http://www.wdcr-scca.org/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=CjRe%2bRgupQ0%3d&tabid=96&mid=2461
There is a provision in the form to allow self-tech - it's not ideal from a Liability standpoint (have to apease the Lawyers, right) BUT at the same time, we recognize that a goodly amount of participants who are more than capable of performing their own tech inspection.
PDX is a good way to get started in Competition - it will teach you all about how to handle the car at speed which comprises perhaps 75% of what is needed to race wheel-to-wheel. What it won't teach you is "Racecraft" but being able to handle the car comfortably will allow a rookie racer to concentrate on "racing" instead of how to drive AND how to race.
Just bear in mind that a PDX isn't a Competition event but rather a Drivers' Education event - like myself, you'll probably be surprised at how much you will learn from your first event.
See you at the track,
Matthew
Potential first-timer here as well. I have gone over the car, a 2004 Dodge SRT-4, using this tech forum, in fact have new hawk pads and yokohama tires in anticipation of PDX. The car passed 60k mile inspection at Pohanka Chrysler-Dodge as well.
What I don't have is a helmet of my own. I have heard loaners are available, is this true? I could place an order for a racequip unit but that would stretch my budget a bit thin after the preparation I have done on the car.
Thanks, and I really hope to see you out there!
