The North Carolina Center for Automotive Research http://www.nccar.us/ has recently opened. Phase one of three is complete and features a 2.02 mile test rack which will eventually expand to over 4 miles. This is a state supported facility which is primarily designed for auto research but will also be available to various amateur clubs. NASA-SE and PCA are already booked for HPDE events in April. Here are a couple of onboard videos I made last week. One from a '03 Miata SE and the other from a vintage Caldwell D9 FF1600. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0edbELrM1Cw&feature=related and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbz4U5FkPZU&feature=related Worker stations, a few guard rails, tire walls, and barriers have been installed during the last week. This facility is located just off I-95 just south of the VA / NC line within two miles of resturants, shopping, motels, auto service and parts at Roanoke Rapids, NC. This location makes it very convenient to many major population centers on the east coast.
