comp commitee notes

All,

Some quick notes from Thursday's meeting:

VIR:

Based upon previous input rec'd about racing on Mother's Day weekend, VIR is off the table for a MARRS race this year. It was deleted in favor of a race with Central Carolina region at Charlotte, but that event didn’t fly. we had already told North Carolina region that we would not be participating in the mothers day event due to format and cost issues, so we are left with only one away race for 2008.  In 2009 there may also be some other options for news tracks in New Jersey. While it won't be for MARRS points, we always have the option of going to a SARRC race.

SCHEDULE:

One modification was made to the schedule below -

The asterisks indicate a MARRS race on the last weekend of the month as

there was a concerted effort to introduce predictability into the schedule

of the "home" MARRS races.

April 5-6        School

April 26-27     MARRS*

May 17-18     National

May 30-31     MARRS*

June 14-15    12 Hour

June 28-29    MARRS*

July 12-13     MARRS (Nelson Ledges)(double)

Aug. 2-3        MARRS

Aug. 30 - Sept 1        Labor Day MARRS*

Sept. 27-28   MARRS*

Oct. 25-26     School

12 HOUR:

Supps were discussed for the 12 hour.  Only major change was the decision to

allow SRFs to run (consistent with the rest of the Khumo endurance series).

All cars will be required to run illuminated light panels (as in this years

13 hour @ VIR)

REGIONAL CLASSES:

The creation of a new regional class, GTA (essentially stock cars that have

been running in SPO) was approved.  There have been strong car counts in

this class in the southern regions and interest is growing in the DC region.

The creation of a IT2 class (similar to IT7 but with MR2's) was not

approved.

SUMMIT Repaving - in case you haven't heard, the track was repaved a month ago.  no more concrete, no more bumps!

Re: comp commitee notes
Hello ITS and ITR Drivers!

The 2008 MARRS season is upon us...Registration for MARRS 1 is OPEN!  go to www.wdcr-scca.org now and sign up...

There is a new Paddock reservation map posted on the wdcr website.  the change for us is that we traded the two grass spots by the gas pumps that we never used for the three paved spots we have been using in the same alley as the rest of our spots.  just formalized what we were doing last year.  we still have to average at least 1.5 cars per space in order to keep them.

if you plan on paddocking with us for MARRS1...email me asap.  I need to know who will be there, when and what kind/size trailer you have in order to plan.

other news..

/- based on requests for reserved numbers and some initial entries for M1, looks like we have some new additions to the ITS and ITR fields this year.  this is great news...more fun for all of us!

/- In case you didn't hear, summit point was repaved, again.  after a bunch of the new asphalt came up in T5 last fall, they dug it all up again, took out the concrete and laid down more asphalt.  rumor has it the track is slower than last fall, but faster than the old pavement.

/-the $25 refundables....print out your registration receipt and bring it to the track with you.  show this and a photo id at the gate and you won't have to pay the $25.  forget to bring it?  not a big deal, the same "pay and get it back at registration" process will still be in place.

/-trophies.....there were just too many trophies not getting picked up, causing large $$ of waste and a storage problem, so a compromise between none and current system was made.  for this year we will be trying a new system.  those who place in marrs races will be given a sticker that indicates what place they took at the track.  at the end of the year, everyone who placed will be given a plaque with a listing of all there podium finishes.

/-comp driver school...attendance is down.  looking for new ways to boost attendance.  a couple of ideas being floated are to (1) add an advanced PDX run group to attract the potential racer crowd and (2) allow those "new" racers with less than two years racing experience to attend schools to boost them up on the learning curve.  this is still a work in progress.

/-speaking of comp school..the spring school is next weekend.  come on out if you can to help new racers, work a corner or to just watch the fun!
