I figure I'd go ahead and add my 1 1/2 cents now. After flagging the MARRS at Summit Point this weekend, I've become real concerned about the rumors flying regarding a possible IRL event in Baltimore which is expected to occur on Labor Day Weekend 2010.. Rumors such as the region giving back the Labor Day Date to go to Baltimore and cover a pro race or at a minimum, dropping the double MARRS. I can only hope our BOD thinks long and hard about giving up a traditionally successful event date to the likes of NASA or the Bike Crowd. I seriously doubt we would ever regain that date again.
A few questions / concerns I have. Is the IRL even going to be around much past 2010 or even in 2010. What about our drivers who would lose the double MARRS, our EV Folks who probably won't be allowed to work their specialty, our T&S and Tech people who also, would probably sit this one out. I know the DC Race was a success, but look at how that city government dumped it after one year. Can we count on the City of Baltimore to continue an event after the first year once the noise and traffic complaints begin. As an F&C worker, I can tell you right now that I would rather sit at home bored, then travel to the city of Baltimore, work excessively long days, for little to no gratitude for Tony (the Coke head) George or any of his crowd, then have to commute into the city or pay jacked up hotel rates.
I would also hope the BOD investigates the IRL's track record of backing out of events, not to mention Baltimore's willingness to follow through.
Hopefully I'm worrying about nothing, but like I said, here's my 1 1/2 cents worth on the subject. Please do not dump our Labor Day Double for something that may not last beyond the first year.

Well we had IRL here in Nashville but they left.Wonder why as they sold out many times.Sure would hate to see the MARRS go to some looser group!Baltimore what a waste, the D.C ALMS race was great but was too hot out and locals complained of the noise.SCCA needs to leave things as they are with MARRS date.Knowing them i will bet they give up the date!Members ,fans (me) all should let it be known they dont want the date given up to anyone.Sprman55
I would certainly hope that if something like that were ever considered the members would be made aware well before the decision was made. I'm betting the response would be overwhelming. Although, if a decision like that were made without member input I could see the response being even MORE overwhelming...
If Baltimore wins the right to host the race, the race wont occur until 2011, the DECISION will be made in July 2010. The race will be in the winning city for 3-5 years and the time would be "late summer", and there has been no specific mention of Labor Day that I have yet seen. There are alot of hurdles to overcome before we will know anymore - sound testing will happen next April and they still need to find ALOT of investors for the project.

Well looks like it may not happen,as it will take large amounts of money to make it happen.Who needs another boring street race where if you touch the wall the car breaks. Here in Nashville IRL was here but left, even after they tryed to keep them here.3 to 5 years ,thats not worth the time effort or money to do.IRL best stick to oval racing if it wants to be around years from now.Bad timing the way things are going in the country right now anyway. : (
