I agree totally! The decision to not have a national is wrong. The decision to conbine SRF with small bore was also wrong. Both of these decisions, as well as many of the others listed by gtlite are hurting the region both in attendance and eventually in membership. The board is not doing its job. I plan on sending an email to the members of the board saying the above and incourage anyone else who does not like what the board is doing to do likewise.
This is a copy of the letter sent to our board members today:
WDCR BOD and All, Our Region's lack of current LEADERSHIP has taken some slowly growing problems and accelerated them to a potential crisis level. As a former Board member, I appreciate the work and tough decisions REQUIRED by the BOD. As a Club member, I trust those who pursue and accept that position of responsibility to administer their position for the good of the club and ALL of it's members. I have tried to contact every DCR board member, and have spoken to many of you within the last week. I am appalled by some of your statements, "justifications" to drop our National Race, and your calloused position towards those members who participate in or support this event, be they drivers, workers, crew, or the few faithful spectators we have left. I and others have outlined numerous causes of the lower event participation and resultant financial impact. There are numerous proven ways to increase the attendance at any given race, but for whatever reason are NOT being applied. However, competitor entrant numbers are not the ONLY cause of this and other challenges our region now faces. THESE PROBLEMS DID NOT OCCUR OVERNIGHT, AND DROPPING ONE EVENT WILL NOT CORRECT THEM. It will however abandon and alienate some of our longest standing and greatest contributing members. These drivers have consistently contributed much more to this region than an entry to one event last year. The success of this Region is based on our ENTIRE racing program. Abandoning any part will injure the whole. Not notifying our membership of this and other serious issues; abstaining from voting; claiming and maintaining ignorance of the issues; claiming "300 regional drivers" are more important than "40 national drivers"; and some of the other LAME excuses is NOT the LEADERSHIP we need from our board. Please deal with the root causes of these problems, be they economic, contractual, or the few individuals who are dragging this Region down. We are a strong Region with a history of success. Please do not further divide this Region by excluding participation in one event. Those you will alienate are long time Region supporters, and they are part of the solution, not the problem. Thank you, Martin Burk 64945.
Please, some tell me that the 12 Hours race is off the schedule as well. If we lost the National only to keep the 12 Hours, I'll change my region in a heartbeat.
Any other regions interested in getting a few not-so-new workers who have had it with the direction DC Region is going lately?
