What has happened to us?No National in 2010
How did this happen?Where are the mindsets of our regions BOD.If we are the SCCA then we support all of SCCA.When I started racing we ran MARRS and the National, what has changed?

Re: What has happened to us?No National in 2010
I agree, what has happened? I guess the DC region wants all of their National drivers to race somewhere else. If this decision is based on the fact that there where only 135 entrants for the last national at Summit Point why not invite a non-national class to suppliment the entries. But when the BOD makes rash decisions before thinking about the overall picture things like this will happen.
Here is a quote from another forum of just the GT drivers:

"I'm a bit of a "Johnny Come Lately" in this discussion because I have been elbow deep with the radio station that is my full-time gig. As Brian and a number of you know we have been planning on building a new GT-Lite car for the 2010 season. While we have been running the MARRS series for the last eight seasons, the decision was made to build the car to run Nationals. This decision was made for a number of reasons but part of it is that we could do testing and stick our toes into the water at nearby Summit Point. No National...no reason to test or run there. This BOD decision is going to drastically increase my R&D and set up costs because I'll have to travel to VIR or NJMSP to get data that I can use! I certainly understand the economy, and I certainly understand that despite our "not for profit" status, we as a club and region need to at least break even...BUT as has been suggested in a number of posts already here in this thread there are a lot of MUCH BETTER OPTIONS than giving up a National Race Date that we will probably not be able to get back should things change. It seems like a VERY shortsighted move to me! That fact that the decision was made prior to the new BOD members being seated raises some interesting questions and posssibilities as well. I'm not saying...I'm just saying!

While I am good friends with many of the Region's workers and some of the officials (and most do a GREAT job), BUT, I have been disappointed by a number of things that the BOD of the WDCR has been doing for the last several years, the loss of a hard copy version of the Straightpipe, the pitiful club web site, the "Paddock Parking Plan' and the subsequent land rush for paddock space at every MARRS race, the allowance of SM and SSM to rule the roost at the track, selective enforcement of rules at tech...and at the same time the absurd enforcement of the same rules, the combination of classes that allowed SRFs and Production cars on the track at the same time, the Hurrying-Up of the race schedule, the elimination of race groups, now the loss of the National. Individually each of these things is troubling...combined it is an alarming trend that has me considering transferring my membership to another Region. While the loss of one member and his family/team may not seem like much, there is a whole lot more to the loss of my membership than meets the eye. While I am not one to blow my own horn in this area (others yes but not this one) our team has been solely responsible for bringing 20 plus NEW members into the SCCA and the WDCR over the last five years and I'll bet that we have been directly responsible for bringing well over 100 non-member paying gate admissions to Summit Point over that same period. I personally pay for the yearly club National and WDCR memberships of 6 of my crew members. In addition, I am a tireless supporter on my radio Morning and Mid-Day shows at WAYZ and WPPT in Hagerstown for the SCCA, WDCR and road racing in general. After numerous complaints at open membership meetings about the lack of awareness for our Region's races, at my expense, I brought TV coverage to the MARRS series by bringing an independent Production Company (3AM Productions) to the track for two seasons to video tape and distribute DVDs to the region's racers. Brian Downey and I (among six others) are co-hosts of "In The Pits Racing Radio" which airs on Saturday Morning on WJFK in DC and the show has been an avid fan of the SCCA and the WDCR. The loss of our participation in the WDCR would result in a significant loss of free Media Relations and PR we currently provide at no cost to the region. While the club should never revolve around one individual or one group I would think that myself and others that do similar things should count for something. We may not be as regularly vocal as some of the more vested interests in the WDCR but, we do have a following and we can take our circus tent and go elsewhere! VIR/Beaver/NJMSP all are competing for my racing dollar...the regions that race at those tracks seem to "get it"...somehow they have been able to run a decent schedule and not give up any of their National races! Maybe we should look to our neighbors for some good ideas? Lastly, I currently have a dual membership with the Florida region and Sue is a dual member with Central Florida so we do have some grounds for comparison. WDCR needs work...and it needs it NOW! The politics and BS of "My Club" is systematically draining the fun out of our family's race weekends. This is but just another reason that NASA looks pretty good to many grassroots SCCA racers! Maybe they would appreciate my participation, Public Relations efforts, and membership support activities."

I have been a Regional racer for a number of years and was planning on running National next year because of the limited numbers of gtlite cars at the regional level. I was also planning on running a number of regional races as well.
If the DC region does not want me to volunteer or doesn't want my registration or my membership dues this is the way to do it.

Re: What has happened to us?No National in 2010

I agree totally!  The decision to not have a national is wrong.  The decision to conbine SRF with small bore was also wrong.  Both of these decisions, as well as many of the others listed by gtlite are hurting the region both in attendance and eventually in membership.  The board is not doing its job.  I plan on sending an email to the members of the board saying the above and incourage anyone else who does not like what the board is doing to do likewise.

WDCR BOD and All,Re: What has happened to us?No National in 2010

This is a copy of the letter sent to our board members today:

WDCR BOD and All,

Our Region's lack of current LEADERSHIP has taken some slowly growing problems and accelerated them to a potential crisis level.
As a former Board member, I appreciate the work and tough decisions REQUIRED by the BOD.  As a Club member, I trust those who pursue and accept that position of responsibility to administer their position for the good of the club and ALL of it's members.
I have tried to contact every DCR board member, and have spoken to many of you within the last week.
I am appalled by some of your statements, "justifications" to drop our National Race, and your calloused position towards those members who participate in or support this event, be they drivers, workers, crew, or the few faithful spectators we have left.
I and others have outlined numerous causes of the lower event participation and resultant financial impact.  There are numerous proven ways to increase the attendance at any given race, but for whatever reason are NOT being applied.  However, competitor entrant numbers are not the ONLY cause of this and other challenges our region now faces.
THESE PROBLEMS DID NOT OCCUR OVERNIGHT, AND DROPPING ONE EVENT WILL NOT CORRECT THEM.
It will however abandon and alienate some of our longest standing and greatest contributing members.
These drivers have consistently contributed much more to this region than an entry to one event last year.
The success of this Region is based on our ENTIRE racing program. Abandoning any part will injure the whole.
Not notifying our membership of this and other serious issues; abstaining from voting; claiming and maintaining ignorance of the issues; claiming "300 regional drivers" are more important than "40 national drivers"; and some of the other LAME excuses is NOT the LEADERSHIP we need from our board.
Please deal with the root causes of these problems, be they economic, contractual, or the few individuals who are dragging this Region down.
We are a strong Region with a history of success.
Please do not further divide this Region by excluding participation in one event.  Those you will alienate are long time Region supporters, and they are part of the solution, not the problem.

Thank you,
Martin Burk 64945.

Re: What has happened to us?No National in 2010

Please, some tell me that the 12  Hours race is off the schedule as well. If we lost the National only to keep the 12 Hours, I'll change my region in a heartbeat.

Any other regions interested in getting a few not-so-new workers who have had it with the direction DC Region is going lately?
