The Stewards build in time for cleanup during a day's worth of racing. If everything works out just right and no one pukes all over the track or causes EV to go out on overtime, we finish early. Most of the time, however, that doesn't happen. When It's hugely hot and humid, the breaks we get help keep us going through the day.
However, the topic right now is getting a National back on the schedule, not the length of the worker's day. Here's something to think over. Even if we can convince the BoD to have a National, can we get the track dates? Bill Scott gives us first shot at the track dates, but that has already been set in stone for next year. He has other groups standing in line to get an extra day or two on the main track, but we get first choice. That doesn't mean we can go back later and say we want another date because that means that some other group might be asked to give up that date.
If we want a National and can convince NEDIV to let us have a date, which MARRS weekend are you drivers willing to give up to have the National? The NEDIV schedule may not be set in stone until the March Round Table, but the schedule is basically set in wet concrete during the November meeting that just finished - hard to change without major efforts.
This was my email to the WDCR BoD. I received one response (from Eric K.).
Members of the BoD:
It is truly a bad reflection on every member of the DC Region BoD that not one of you attended the Mini-Con recently – a convention that was originally to be held by the DC Region. To say this is a sad state of affairs is putting it much too lightly. The DC Region was the talk of the convention – but not in a good way. Is this the legacy each of you desire from your tenure on the BoD of a once highly respected organization? Is all hope for 2010 now lost, or is tere some way to salvage your, and the Region’s reputation? Based on the difficulty of getting race weekend dates at Summit Point, is there much likelihood there will be a National in 2011? If you are interested in why many drivers who have traditionally entered the Summit Point National haven’t lately, I can provide several reasons. As I’m currently a DC Region member, you have my contact information.
Regards,
I think Dave said it This year is lost.
Soooo how do we change the direction for next year?
If we don't start now to put the national back on the schedule there is no way we will get the date from Summit Point or the desire from the members much less a desire from drivers to attend just another national.
If we cannot make a national race more "fun" less expensive, and a must attend Marquee event then there really is no reason for national drivers to choose Summit Point.

So if it not price and it is not timing
What is the reason for low car counts?
fun
fewer competitors
to many opportunities at other tracks
If 20 plus classes are represented and seven competitors show up per class (we all know this won't happen) thats 140 cars
If FV, GTL, FF, SM or any class decides that they want more competitors then shouldn't we offer something to the classes that bring more than a set number of competitors to the national? (Like the FV race at the last MARRS)
