When Kim Ratcliffe left the DC Region board of directors for personal reasons, the board was obligated under the Region’s by-laws to name her replacement.

A Caste of Thousands

Next to its people, the DC Region’s greatest asset is its range of programs. We have solo and racing programs which are large and successful enough to be the envy of most regions. We have growing RallyCross and Performance Driving Experience (PDX) programs which are becoming models of success for much of the rest of SCCA. We have a rally program which, while small, has been growing and recognized with national awards. It’s the kind of thing that makes me proud to be a member of the DC Region.

But underneath this runs a disquieting undercurrent that bothers me.

THE DC REGION SIGNS WITH THE BALTIMORE GRAND PRIX!

The DC Region has signed an agreement with the Baltimore Grand Prix to support the Labor Day pro street races in Baltimore. The Region will manage the flagging and communications for the event under the direction of our own Dave Hsu, who’s equally experienced at both club racing and pro events. The Region will also have a hospitality area which will serve as a central meeting place for Region members and prospective members.

BREATHLESS IN THE BLOGOSPHERE

I owe everyone an apology. There hasn’t been an RE Blog since December when I became Regional Executive. But I’ve got a good excuse: I’m an old-fashioned writer but a virgin blogger, and the idea of jumping into the blogosphere has been a daunting prospect. OK, so maybe I don’t have a good excuse after all. Maybe I’m just a curmudgeonly Luddite. I’m reasonably sure half of that last statement is right; I’m just not certain which half is right at any given time.

Farewell Blog from Evanthe Salisbury

One year ago, I officially began my term as RE of this esteemed Region, a position I never intended to fill but accepted due to an unforeseen circumstance. I knew full well that it would only be for this one year; I have what is (arguably) the problem of youth: a young professional career and a young family, both of which require my full attention all of the time. However, with it being a time of uncertainty and relative unrest in the Region, I felt that I could find the energy and attention span for the last year of my term on the Board of Directors to help keep the Region from imploding. At least, to me, that was the direction in which it felt like we were heading at the time.

4th of July

On this eve of July 4th, our country's Independence Day, please take a moment from your holiday weekend to remember our great forefathers who had the vision and the will to make the United States a place where
people of all backgrounds can not only live peacefully but pursue their dreams without fear of persecution.
Today, our troops faithfully and reverently protect it every day. I salute all of the military branches with my heartfelt appreciation for all of the sacrifices they are making for us civilians. We can
continue to race our cars for the pure love of competition and camaraderie and friendship because of you.
Happy Independence Day.
Cheers.
