Rules

In General, WDCR SCCA Solo Events shall be run according to the current SCCA National Solo Rule Book (NSR) (and FasTrack amendments) with exceptions documented here whenever possible. In the event that actual procedures differ from what is documented here or in the NSR, the final decision will be made by the WDCR Solo Committee

Event Safety

The safety of all participants is the highest priority of the event. The Event Safety Plan as posted at the event contains all event-specific details. Please be aware that no-one under the age of 12 is permitted in any "hot" area of the event (course or grid) at any time. Jr. Kart competitors are permitted in hot areas only during their designated competition group. The Chief Safety Steward and any designated assistants are the final word for event safety issues. Their decision is final.

Personal Belongings

WDCR SCCA is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Please take any appropriate precautions to secure your property.

Points Events

The series will consist of a number of events to be held throughout the year put on by the Washington, D. C. Region, SCCA. The first event is a non-points practice event; all other events are considered a "Points Event" unless otherwise indicated.

Event Schedule

Note: Competitors who do not check-in in time for their events may be allowed to run at the discretion of event officials, but not for event or Series points (their runs will be classified as "Non-competition" runs).

Eligibility

The series is open to all drivers eligible under the SCCA SOLO RULES. Eligible vehicle include those that meet the requirements under the SCCA SOLO RULES. Vehicle classifications and levels of vehicle preparation are to be determined by use of the SCCA SOLO RULES, sections 13 through 19. Correct car classification is the sole responsibility of the competitors. All competitors must possess a valid driver's license and be prepared to present it at check-in.

Vehicle Identification

All cars must be clearly marked with their Car Number and Class. Number and Class markings shall conform to the SCCA SOLO Rulebook.

1. All vehicles must display numbers and class letters on both sides, which must be readable by Timing & Scoring, Course, and Grid workers at all times.
2. Only one set of numbers and class letters may be visible while the vehicle is running.
3. Class shall be represented by the upper-case abbreviated form rather than be spelled out. Ladies' classes shall be indicated by the letter "L" following the class letters. (Example: "BSPL" instead of "B Street Prepared Ladies").
4. Numbers and class letters should be positioned next to each other. All letters and numbers must be on body panels, not on windows. All numbers and class letters must use the same typeface and the same color, and this color must provide adequate contrast to the background color (see the SCCA SOLO RULES for examples).
5. Numbers must be a minimum of 8" high with a 1.25" stroke. Class letters must be a minimum of 4" high with a 0.75" stroke. In all cases, the height of the class letters must be between 25% and 75% of the height of the numbers. Stroke width must be at least 10% of the height. (See the SCCA SOLO RULES.)
6. The "1" on two-driver cars and the "L" on Ladies class cars are subject to all of the above requirements with regard to placement, color, size, and stroke.
7. Karts may use numbers and class letters of reduced size provided that the following conditions are met:
   1. Numbers must be displayed on the front and rear in addition to both sides;
   2. Class letters must be on both sides;
   3. In no case may the numbers be smaller than 6" in height with ¾" stroke, using a high-contrast color and background.

Cars that do not meet these requirements will NOT pass tech inspection. Competitors will be issued warning cards up to and including the first Points Event; at subsequent events competitors will not pass tech and will not be permitted to compete.

Tech/Safety Inspection

All cars shall be inspected for safety by designated inspectors before entering the Grid area. The inspection lines will be open only during the above check-in times. Driver-owned helmets will also be inspected at this time.

All drivers and passengers MUST wear an approved helmet while in a vehicle on-course.  Approved helmets shall carry the Snell Foundation "SA" or "M" designation for 2005, 2000, or 1995. No other approvals shall be accepted. Loaner helmets are generally available for use by competitors.

Cars must be competition ready at tech. This includes Car Number and Class markings. Competitors may only have items in their car that are going to and remaining in grid. No tables, tents, etc. Violators will be sent back to the paddock and will have to go through tech again.

Ride Alongs

Per SCCA National rules, no competitors may ride as passengers during competition runs before they have finished competition. The only exceptions will be Novice Instructors (as determined by the Solo Committee) riding with competitors with clear need.

Re-Runs

Re-runs will in general be taken during the heat in which the participant competes; however, in order to keep the Event running smoothly a competitor may find their re-run(s) carrying in to the following heat. No re-runs will be permitted after Final Results for that heat have been posted. If a competitors feels that they are owed a re-run it is their responsibility to contact a Grid worker as soon as possible following the run in which they feel they earned the re-run. Exact timing for re-runs will be determined by the Grid Chief in co-ordination with Timing. If heat or other mechanical necessity is an issue, the competitor will have a minimum of 1 stationary minute for cool-down. If it is in the best interest of competition, and there is time, the nationally accepted minimum of 5 minutes will be used. Timing, regardless of duration, will begin when the competitor exits the course, not when the competitor reachs their grid spot. This applies to single driver and two-driver vehicles.

Scoring

Points are to be assigned within a class as follows:

A Ladies Class will be available for all ladies who wish to enter into this class rather than running in the open classes. Placement in the Ladies class will be based upon times as computed using the  PAX Index multipliers. Points will be assigned in the same manner as for the open classes.

Working the Event

All competitors are required to work during one heat in their session. Competitors that do not work are disqualified and will receive no times or points for the event. Repeat offenders may be refused entrance at the discretion of the Chief Steward.

Posting of Results

Timing and penalty information collected during a heat is audited by a Timing Chief in order to minimize errors. Competitors are reminded that without signed corner sheets and sweep trucks we are limited in our ability to find and correct all errors; we all depend on accurate calls from corner workers.

Results will be prominently posted and marked as "Preliminary" as soon as possible once Audit is complete. Morning results will be considered Final 30 minutes after the results for heat 3 have been posted. Afternoon results will be considered Final 30 minutes after the results for heat 6 have been posted.

Protests

Competitors that wish to protest the results as posted must convey their protest to the Chief Steward along with a protest fee of $40.

The Chief Steward, upon acceptance of the protest, may either summarily judge or may, at his discretion, select a Protest Committee of 3 individuals that are not directly or indirectly interested or involved in the matters under consideration. The Protest Committee and the Chief Steward will rule within 48 hours. This ruling is final and not protestable. In no cases shall the Protest Committee order an event to be re-run.

If the protest is upheld, the protest fee will be returned in its entirety and results will be adjusted according to the directions of the Chief Steward and/or Protest Committee. The Chief Steward and/or Protest Committee shall direct the disposition of the protest fee if the protest is denied.

Event Awards

Awards shall be awarded to the highest placed drivers in each class on the following basis:

• One award for two to three entrants in a class;
• Two awards for four to six entrants in a class;
• Three awards for seven or more entrants in a class.

Championship Awards

At the end of the year, Class Champion and Runner Up awards will be given to the top two qualified drivers that have accumulated the highest point totals in each of the classes designated by the SCCA SOLO RULES and "exhibition" classes as decided by the Solo Committee, and to the top two qualified drivers in the Ladies Class that have accumulated the highest point total based on their computed (PAXed) times.

• One Class Champion award for two to three qualified drivers in a class;
• A Class Champion and a Runner Up award for four or more qualified drivers in a class.

To qualify for a Class Championship award a driver must compete (in that class) in at least half of the designated Points Events. Championship Points will be computed for each qualifying driver using their scores from each Points Event, throwing out the 2 (two) lowest results.

In the event of a tie, the driver with the most number of first place results will win. If it is still tied, it will move to the most number of second place results, then third place results. If the drivers are still tied at that point they will be declared co-champions and there will be no Runner Up award.

The location and time of presentation of awards will be determined at a later date and competitors will be notified via the WDCR Solo website, the Region email group, and any competitor mailing list available.
