Been doing Track Days for a while? Ever wanted to experience the thrill of being in the passenger seat and teaching at a Track Day? Here's your opportunity to find out what it's all about and become part of the WDCR PDX Instructor Corps! Our annual instructor school will be held on Saturday April 18th, 2015 at Summit Point Shenanadoah Circuit. For more information please reach out to PDX Chief Instructor: Mhyar Alzayat at

UPDATE 04/13/2015

Dear WDCR PDX/Club Trials Participants,

Listen closely....Do you hear that???  It sounds like a soft tick tocking, like a clock...reminding you that we are just 6 days away from our Annual Instructor Clinic where we make the best instructors even better, and we make our new instructors the best!  Have you considered becoming an instructor?  This may be the event for you to come and learn from us and get the experience to learn how to encourage nervous novice drivers to be strong, confident safe drivers, and to take over confident novice drivers and walk them towards reality and safety.  You must be an advance driver, and we encourage those who have comp licenses to apply.  If you are interested, please contact Mhyar Alzayat ( and let him know your driving resume.  He will approve you to take the course.  Not everyone who takes the class will be given the green flag to instruct, but at least you will have the opportunity to try.

"But, wench, why must you taunt me so?" Yes, I can read your mind.  So you really should think cleaner thoughts when I am around you.  If you are a solo'd intermediate or advanced student who has been on the Shenandoah Circuit and is comfortable driving that circuit with like minded and like skilled individuals you are invited to participate in some open track time.  YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY ACCESS TO INSTRUCTORS.  So you must be comfortable, approved, and safe.  We do ask your previous instructors for their feedback on people whom we are not 100% sure on.  In previous years, we have had more track time than anyone could handle.  We actually ended earlier because everyone was mentally and physically done.  I can't make guarantees and each year is different, but this is the event that you come to and be prepared to really test yourself and your car on endurance factors.  Bring extra brake pads, bring fluids for you and your car, and maybe an extra set of tires if you are marginal.  Heck, bring a hammock and take a nap during your downtime...napping is good for you.

"Oh...wench, you are really boiling my blood, I haven't been cleared for solo. Why do you torture me with these excellent offers?"  (Testy little buggers aren't you?) And yes, I get paid to torture you.  It's true.  However, I have an outstanding offer for you as well.  We need workers.  Many of you have talked about how expensive track time can be and we understand that.  So we encourage you to come out and learn how to flag with us.  In exchange for flagging that one day, we will give you 1 credit towards a free event.  If you work 3 days, you get a free event.  What if you have friends who have no interest in driving, but are willing to spend a day with you on a station?  Well, you can bring 2 friends and yourself, and voila--FREE EVENT.  We will even feed you, and clothe you, and give you some high quality instruction. Life could not get any better than that!  Who knows maybe you will have so much fun flagging you will come and flag all of the Track Events at Summit Point.  It could become your newest obscession.

So how do you get involved?  Simply sign up for the event.  Registration closes on Monday, April 13th.  I'd love to see you there!!!

Your dearest, darling, registration wench,

Kim Dixon

The Washington DC Region SCCA will be holding it's Time Trials/PDX Instructor Clinic, at Summit Point Motorsports Park's Shenandoah Circuit on 04/18/15.  The clinic is open to current instructors, and those who are interested in instructing with us, and will include a combination of on-track and classroom sessions.  Instructors are requested to bring a vehicle suitable for in-car instruction, as they will be doing exercises from both the Student as well as Instructor perspective.  Cost for the clinic is $50 to help defray our expenses, and includes lunch at the track.

This is a great way to find out if Instructing is for you, or if you're already instructing, pick up or refresh some of your skills.  These clinics are typically very interactive, and a great opportunity to share experiences and techniques with other instructors.

The day will also include a PDX group open to students cleared to run in the Advanced PDX group.  This group should see several hours of track time - bring plenty of tires, brakes, and fuel!  Cost for this group is $225.

If you have questions about Instructing, you can e-mail for more information.

See you at the track!
