Shirley Wantland, Longtime DC Region Member & Volunteer

It is with a very heavy heart that we report the loss of Shirley Wantland who died unexpectedly on 12/27/2017.  Shirley was a longtime DC Region member and volunteer since the early 80's.

Shirley's easy smile, quick wit, and dedication to our club will be greatly missed!

UPDATE:  Viewings will be held at the Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home, 1630 Edmonson Ave. Catonsville, MD 21228 on Friday January 5th 3-5pm and 7-9pm.  The Memorial Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am, Saturday January 6th at Trinity United Methodist Church at 2100 Westchester Ave, Catonsville MD 21228.  Internment will follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, 200 E. Padonia Rd., Timonium, MD 21093. We will then return to the church for a luncheon and "getting together" time.

Frank McBride, WDCR Member of Over 40 Years

Longtime DC Region member, Frank McBride, 71, died after a short illness on July 17, 2017. Frank was a crew member for over 40 years for Don Taylor, Paul Fleischmann, Bob Houston and Bob O’Connor. Frank assisted with the SCCA Summit Point drivers’ school for many decades. He had an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and a law degree from the University of Virginia. He served as the DC Region’s counsel for several decades.

Ernie Stadler, Long-Time WDCR Member

It is with a sad heart that we report the passing of long-time DC Region member, Ernie Stalder. Ernie passed away unexpectedly late Friday evening at his home in Silver Spring.

Ernie's memorial service will be held Friday 7/14/17 at 3 pm at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, in Silver Spring, Maryland.  Visitation will follow the service until 5 p.m.

Ernie's son Andy says, "SCCA Club Racing and the fraternity of enthusiasts was a big part of his life".  He started racing Porsches in the early ‘60’s and that led to FV which he had pursued for nearly 50 years until the recent events.

Peter van der Vate, Two-Time SCCA National Champion

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of another loss to the SCCA family.  Pete van der Vate was a 20+ year member of the DC Region and was a two-time SCCA National Champion.

Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday, March 9th and funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 10th, both at Money & King Funeral Home in Vienna, VA.

Dottie Dorothy Aston Huemmer, WDCR Member of More than 30 Years

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Dottie Dorothy Aston Huemmer on Tuesday 09/20 after a long fight with COPD. Dottie was a member of the DC Region for almost 30 years, and was a dedicated worker with husband Steve in the Emergency Services Specialty. 

There will be a celebration of her life Thursday, Sept 29 at 11:00 am at the Littlestown Chapel, 1144 Bollinger Rd, Littlestown PA 17340. Lunch will follow the service. 

There will be a Missing Man Formation during the MARRS 10 weekend; details will be announced at the track.

Stan Damren, Dedicated and Well-Loved WDCR Member

On August 24th the DC Region lost one of its most dedicated and well loved members. Stan Damren left us after a courageous battle with cancer. His enthusiasm and sense of humor were contagious, his friendliness was universal and his love for all things SCCA was boundless. Anything, anywhere, anytime. We were so fortunate to be his 2nd family. He will be sadly missed, but his spirit will always be present.

Arrangements handled by Stauffer Funeral Home 1621 Opossumtown Pike Frederick MD 21702. Viewings will be held Tuesday 08/30 from 2-4 and 6-8, the funeral is on Wednesday 08/31 at 2pm.

Bill Holden, Owner of George's Foreign Cars

Mr. Bill Holden passed away on May 30, 2016 in Silver Spring, MD, after battling Alzheimer's for many years.  Bill was born in Failsworth, England on November 19, 1932, and came to the U.S. in 1967. He lived in the Sandy Spring, MD area for over 45 years, owning and operating George's Foreign cars in Rockville, MD.  His greatest passion was cars, and his second home was the Summit Point Race Track, where he enjoyed working, racing, and teaching.  He was a long time member of the Sports Car Club of America where he made many friends.  He leaves behind his wife, Catherine, daughter Vanessa, son-in-law Steve, and grandchildren Zachary and Courtney, as well as extended family in the U.S. and  England.  

The family would like to invite friends and family to a farewell memorial gathering at Ashton Baptist Church, 17826 New Hampshire Ave, Ashton, MD 20861  on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association (Alz.org) or to the Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care Team (Seasons.org).
