ARE YOU INTERESTED in running for the Board of Directors?

Greetings Washington DC Region Members, Have you ever considered serving your region on the Board of Directors? If so now would be a good time to do it. The Board of Directors (BoD) Election Committee is actively seeking folks interested in running.
The ‘Official’ job description for the Board members can be found at WDCR Bylaws and you can get an idea how things work by looking at Articles IV and V of the bylaws. We meet once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday at 7PM and we’re usually on the way home by 9:00-9:30, though some meetings have gone longer and some shorter. Outside the meetings we usually average about 2-3 hrs a week on Region business. When things are going smoothly we’re invisible – but when they’re not going so well we’re slightly more visible. It’s a unique opportunity to get involved in the inner workings of one of the largest Regions in SCCA. There is no pay but Dinner is provided at most of our monthly BoD meetings.

The qualifications worthy of note to be a nominee by the committee are:
a. The candidate must be a Member in good standing.
b. The candidate must have been a Member for no less than two (2) years on the date of the close of nominations.
c. The candidate must be no less than 18 years of age on the date of the close of nominations.
d. The candidate shall not be an owner, director or officer of an organization whose mission, events or activities compete with the Region’s or SCCA’s events or activities.
e. The candidate, if term-limited, must not have served as a Director in the most recent 18 months prior to the close of balloting of the then-pending election.

If you are interested in running for the BoD please reach out to one of the Committee members and let us know. If you would like more information, please contact any member of the election committee and we’ll do our best to answer your questions. You can get on the ballot via the nomination committee or you may go the petition route. For instance, that’s how Alan Olson got on the ballot. The petition requires the signature of 20 voting members. Our bylaws require that all nominations, including nominating petitions but be in the hands of the BoD 60 days before the election. This gives the Region Administrator time to validate the qualifications of the candidate, and preparation of the election Website so the voting can begin on time. Per our bylaws voting remains open until the Region’s Annual Membership meeting to be held in October when the results will be announced. The specific date, and location, for that meeting will be announced in the near future.
